How to Get More Google Reviews for Your HVAC Company (Without Begging)
Google reviews for HVAC companies aren't a vanity metric — they're the tiebreaker. When a homeowner compares three unknown contractors at 9pm, star rating and review count are the only evidence they have. The shop with 480 reviews wins the click over the shop with 40, almost every time. Here's the system that grows reviews steadily without you ever begging.
The four rules
Rule 1: Ask everyone
Not just the happy-looking customers — everyone. Besides being the policy-compliant approach (Google and the FTC both prohibit selectively soliciting only positive reviewers, i.e. "review gating"), asking everyone produces volume, and volume is what ranks. A 4.8 with 400 reviews beats a 5.0 with 25.
Rule 2: Ask instantly
Review likelihood decays by the hour. The request should land while the tech's van is still visible from the porch. That's only sustainable with automation — in our platform, moving a job to "Won" in the CRM fires the request text automatically (the review engine handles the rest).
Rule 3: Make it two taps
Send the direct review link (from your Google Business Profile) by SMS, not email. Tap the link, tap the stars, done. Every extra step halves your completion rate.
Rule 4: Reply to every review
Thank the 5-stars by name and mention the job ("Glad the new heat pump is keeping up, Sarah!") — it reads as a real company and adds keyword-relevant text to your profile. For negative reviews: respond fast, stay calm, take it offline, and fix it. Future readers judge you by the reply more than the complaint.
Copy-paste request templates
- SMS, same day: "Hi [Name], thanks for choosing [Company] today! If [Tech] took good care of you, would you leave us a quick Google review? It takes 30 seconds and helps our small business a ton: [link]"
- Follow-up, 3 days later (if no review): "Hi [Name], just checking the new system's treating you well! If you have 30 seconds, we'd still love that review: [link] — either way, we're here if you need us."
One polite follow-up, then stop. Two asks is a system; five is spam.
What a review flywheel does to everything else
More reviews lift your map ranking, which drives more emergency calls, which — if they're answered (see our math on what missed calls cost) — become more completed jobs and more review requests. Reviews are step one of the whole platform flywheel. Want it running without adding a single task to your day? Book a demo and we'll show the automation live.
