HVAC SEO: How Contractors Actually Rank in 2026

HVAC SEO is simpler than agencies make it sound — and harder than the "just blog weekly!" advice suggests. For a local service company, HVAC SEO comes down to four assets, and they rank in a strict order of importance: your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your service pages, and your city pages. Get those right and you'll outrank shops twice your size. Here's the plain-English playbook.

1. Google Business Profile: the real homepage

For "AC repair near me," the map pack gets the clicks. Claim and complete every field: primary category (HVAC contractor), services listed individually, real photos of trucks and techs (not stock), hours including emergency availability, and posts during peak season. Answer every Q&A. Most competitors set this up once in 2019 and never touched it — that's your opening.

2. Reviews: the ranking factor you can control weekly

Review count, velocity, and replies all feed map-pack ranking — and more importantly, they decide which listing a stressed homeowner trusts. The system that works is boring: ask every customer, immediately after the job, with a direct link. We automate exactly that in our review engine, and we wrote a full playbook on getting more Google reviews.

3. Service pages: one page per money keyword

A single "Our Services" page cannot rank for "AC repair," "furnace installation," and "duct cleaning" simultaneously. Every service that makes you money gets its own page with its own keyword, real content about process and pricing, license and guarantee info, and Service schema. That's how our HVAC websites are structured out of the box.

4. City pages: rank beyond your home zip

You serve 8 suburbs but only rank in the one your shop sits in — city pages fix that. A good city page is not the same paragraph with the town name swapped: mention drive times, neighborhoods, common housing stock (1970s ranches with original ductwork rank-and-file in many metros), and jobs you've done there. Two or three strong city pages beat ten thin ones.

What about blogging?

Useful, but fourth priority, not first. Write for questions homeowners actually search ("why is my AC freezing up") and always route readers to a service page. A blog without service pages underneath it is a library with no cash register.

The honest timeline

Local SEO compounds: expect movement on suburb keywords in 2–4 months and real momentum by month 6 — faster if your review velocity jumps. If you'd rather run service calls while this gets built and maintained for you, that's literally our product: book a demo and we'll audit your current rankings live on the call.
